Four of the Best FREE Sites to Achieve Lossless Image Compression
Image compression is a key factor in website speed which is one of the first stepss you can do to optimise your website. Read our tips on how to optimise your website here: Four Tips to Optimise Your Website.
My favourite free online image compressor is TinyPNG. I love that it has the capacity to drag ‘n drop up to 20 images at once & either download them individually or all together. If you choose to download all it zips them in your downloads folder. TinyPNG compresses either .png or .jpg images without losing quality. It also has the capacity to compress images with transparency without loosing the transparency! The only downside is that with the free version you can only compress images that are under 5MB.
Pixlr is my go-to when I want to remove the background from an image and to resize an image’s dimensions, but it is also good for image compression. The limit for image compression with Pixlr is that you can only compress one image at a time making it a time-consuming process.

Image Compressor is what I use to compress bulk images that are above 5MB. You can upload up to 20 images at once and like TinyPNG either download them individually or together. Image Compressor is part of a suite of tools that can be useful for a variety of tasks such as compressing JPEGs, converting PNGs to PDFs, and PDFs to JPGs.
Four different file types are supported by Compressor.io: JPEG – PNG – GIF – SVG and you can select to have either lossless or lossy compression. Compressor.io can reduce image size by up to 90% which would definitely benefit the speed of your website. One limitation for Compressor.io is that even though it has a huge compression, you can only compress one image at a time and it does take some time to compress. So great for a couple of images, not so great for a lot.
